Keeping the Standards High for In Home Childcare

Dear Friends, I have met a lot of interesting people as the owner of a Nanny Agency. I also have read some disturbing ads online looking for a nanny, or from the nanny looking for a job. If you have decided on In Home Childcare then you have to get in research mode. You will have interviews to do and background checks to perform, etc. There is a lot you must do to make sure you are finding the nanny that your family really needs. There are many people who would love to be your nanny depending on the money. Do not hire anyone because they are low balling. It is not a good sign of one's knowledge or character when one is low balling at all and plus there are people who are experienced, professional, passionate, have integrity and commitment to quality childcare.  If you can not afford to pay the nanny at least the going hourly rate in your area then do not choose In Home Childcare. I mean do you really want to pay someone who isn't following IRS Guidelines?! This trait

An Invitation to Invent With LittleBits

We continue to enjoy our Wonder Shelves at the Studio. I recently was able to get my hands on the Gizmos & Gadgets Kits, 2nd Edition from LittleBits  , which has been added to our shelves of wonder. This kit is the next best thing to chocolate!                                                                           It comes with a guide to inspire you to invent, that is very colorful and well written. The recommended ages is 8-12 years old, but I will assure you that it is very similar to LEGOS. I would describe it as an Electronic LEGO. This kit helps to bring your inventions alive! The first project in the guide is the SpinMate, which is very clever to put together. I just had to make a circuit that needed a DC motor, a slide dimmer, mounting board, glue dots, a wheel, adhesive shoes, battery, and power. All of this came with the kit, and in the guide there is information about what each Bit actually does. Illustrations are done of the projects are in color which m

Poetry Activities From Preschool to Highschool

April is here! April is National Poetry Month and the Month of The Young Child. To kick off the celebrations I thought it would be fitting to share some poetry activities for the young children in our lives .                                                                          Sharing poetry is just like introducing a baby to a new food. The earlier that we expose our children to poetry it becomes easier to digest. When we are doing finger plays, reading rhyming books, and listening to music we are setting the foundation that begins the understanding of word play, which leads to naturally being able to identify different forms of poetry.  Create Poetry Baskets!  To create a Poetry Basket you will need a poem of your choice, preferably one about something your child is interested in. You will also need small objects that represent what the poem is about. Place your objects in a basket and the poem next to it, now it's all set for poetry fun. The Poetry Basket pic
