The Geeky Nanny's 2017 Summer Bucket List

Hello Peeps! School is out, and Summer vacation has already started. I finally made my Summer Bucket List and thought I would share it with you. Creating a Bucket List is so much fun to do with the family.  If you haven't made a Bucket List yet with your family, be prepare to be impressed with how many creative ideas your family will come up with that will keep everyone curiously engaged and making memories while experiencing new things, or favorite things.

I am really excited about one of the things on my Bucket List! It is to Attend a Teddy Bear's Picnic. I have never gone to one, and this Summer I am going to make sure I get to experience this. You are all invited too, so stay tuned!!

While creating your Bucket List you can keep it full of variety by creating categories and then adding ideas. Creating a list by categories will make the experiences more likely to consist of activities that can be done at home too. To have a successful Bucket List just make sure you include all members of the family when creating it, so that everyone can look forward to their idea coming into fruition.

On Wednesday, June 21st Summer will be officially here! How will you be celebrating Summer Solstice?

So You Wanna Be A Babysitter?

Have you been thinking about becoming a babysitter, and your just not quite sure how to get started? Perhaps, you are still trying to figure out if you are even cut out for this job. You may have had many ideas of how you may work or volunteer since you first pondered the idea of babysitting.  If the idea of babysitting keeps coming back I would say it is totally worth researching about.

Great babysitters are leaders, safety conscious, patient, playful, very flexible, mature, not easily distracted while working with children, positive and business minded.

Do you possess these qualities? Are you willing to always make improvements in these areas? No one is perfect, and that includes babysitters. Since the Babysitter's primary role is to take care of children it is very important that we learn what it takes to do this job. If personal and professional development is something you are eager to do then babysitting is for you. I highly recommend enrolling in a babysitting training clas…

10 Safety Tips To Share With Children Who Stay Home Alone

Hello Everyone,

With Summer approaching we are all looking for ways to keep our kids from avoiding the Summer Slide. There are a lot of summer camps being offered in our community that help to keep the kids entertained, as well as giving them enough time to spend their summer learning on what exactly interest them. There are times when we have planned everything down to the minute and then we realize that we have a two to three hours that must be filled, or the kiddos might have to stay home by themselves. In Michigan there is no clear law that states how old a child must be to be left home alone. According to The Michigan Child Protection Law children between the ages of 10 through 12 are looked at on a case by case basis. If you are not sure about the laws in your State then go to  Home Alone Rules by State , for a quick reference. Whether your child is staying home alone after school or requesting the responsibility to stay home alone,  they will need to be prepared and taught impo…

Crafternoon STEAM Sessions with The Geeky Nanny: 5 Maker Activities to Get this Party Started

I have really been busy behind the scenes getting our Studio ready for childcare licensing approval. It is such an exciting adventure as we prepare to expand our services.

The Studio resides in my home that was previously licensed by the State of Michigan for 10 years. It is located in a separate area from living quarters and on a separate floor, with a designated entrance for clients only. In September of 2013 I had decided that I wanted to try working with children outside of my home and decided not to renew my license again. Through this journey I discovered that I loved nannying and started the agency. Our goals for applying for childcare licensing through the State of Michigan is to be able to offer school aged drop-in programs, and a preschool program in my home beyond the calendar days that one may operate such activity without a State of Michigan issued license. We also want our programs to be accredited by the NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children). …
